If you have ever seen the television show Dog The Bounty Hunter then you would know exactly what a bail bondsman is. In addition to a bail bondsman, Dog is also a bounty hunter. Back to “what is a bail bondsman?”. A bail bondsman or a bond agent is someone who puts up the money for an offender so that they can walk the streets free until their appointed court trial date. Bail bondsman typically charge a 10-15% fee of the total amount of money that they put up for an offender on bail. For example if you needed a $100k bond, you would end up paying around $10-15k in fees to the bond agent for his/her services. In the case you did not show up for your court appointment date, the bail bondsman would forfeit the whole $100k, unless he finds the offender and drags them back to the court house. The person who finds these people is known as a bounty hunter.
